Australia flogged the South African bowling for 65 in the last five overs of their second innings before setting their hosts a world record 421 to win at tea on the fourth day of the first test at Kingsmead on Monday.
Australia finished with a flourish with Pat Cummins and Beau Webster smashing the spin of Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer leading up to the declaration with the total on 314 for six in 58 overs.
There was evidence of added turn in the pitch and some unevenness of bounce but with little pressure on the batters and with most of the fielders on the boundary, the Aussies made merry.
Matt Renshaw added 82 in 99 balls to his first innings 190 before being caught and bowled by Keshav Maharaj after the ball finally found its way into his hands after a bizarre pinball effect.
Pat Cummins, in particular, had some fun, cracking five sixes in his innings in his run-a-ball partnership of 32 with Webster before calling the slaughter off.
