Fresh off becoming test cricket's all-time leading catcher with his 222nd grab, surpassing Joe Root's record, Steve Smith showed why he's always ahead of the game. With Nathan Lyon spinning his web, Smith read the reverse sweeps from Temba Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne early, pouncing on two superb catches in a masterclass of anticipation. While others played the shot, Smith was already taking the catch.

The moment both batters switched hands to attempt the reverse sweep, Smith was already on the move. Reading the play before it unfolded, he positioned himself perfectly and held on to two sharp chances.
It's a reminder that in cricket, catches don't just win matches - sometimes they're won before the ball is even hit. Smith's cricket IQ was on full display as he stayed ahead of the game and caught on before everyone else.
