Cricket South Africa (CSA) will unite cricket and cause when the Proteas Women take the field in the fifth Black Day one-day international (ODI) at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Sunday, 1 March.
The Proteas Women head into the Black Day ODI with an unassailable 2-0 lead against Pakistan in the ICC Women’s Championship ODI series following a high-scoring thriller in the second match in Centurion on Wednesday.
The annual Black Day fixture sees the national team proudly don a special edition black kit with a touch of purple as they stand in solidarity with women across the country and around the world to raise awareness and funds in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Hosted under this year’s theme, Brave in Black, the Proteas call on fans and the cricket fraternity to join the movement by wearing black and purple, symbolising resilience and unity against GBV.
The match will blend international cricket with meaningful activations and family-friendly entertainment, transforming the stadium into a space of celebration and collective action.
Supporters will be encouraged to contribute through a range of fundraising initiatives, including a unique QR code for donations directly to People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) to further support the organisation’s work in assisting survivors of GBV.
In addition to financial contributions, fans will have the opportunity to donate non-perishable food items, clothing, blankets, school shoes, books and toys for children affected by the scourge.
The in-stadia experience will feature a multicultural performance by the local Ulundi-based dance group, Umshoshaphansi, interactive fan zones, and ongoing awareness and fundraising drives throughout the match. At the change of innings, supporters will be invited onto the field to pledge their commitment to ending GBV by signing a Black Day banner.
CSA Partners Powerfleet will activate their new My Panic product, a personal panic button on your phone.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, dress in black with a touch of purple, and be part of a match that represents far more than cricket but a bold statement of solidarity.
The match will get underway at 10am SAST at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium and will be broadcast live on SuperSport Variety 1 (Ch. 206) and SABC 3.
