Ferisco Adams launched a lower-order fightback to help Goldrush Boland reach 224-9 in their CSA One-Day Cup match against the Moothee Ram Tuskers at Boland Park on Wednesday.
Adams showed the top order how to construct an innings of substance with a well-made 72-ball 76.
This is his eighth List A half-century and he faced 62 balls to reach the milestone.
The 36-year-old shared a 53-run eighth-wicket partnership with Keith Dudgeon (10), whose duty was to keep one end secure while Adams went after the Tuskers' bowling attack.
Adams fittingly lost his wicket while trying to send a Hardus Viljoen delivery over the boundary. His partnership with Dudgeon succeeded his brief 34-run seventh-wicket stand with Imran Manack.
The allrounder's heroics saved the hosts some blushes and catapulted them to a competitive total.
Glenton Stuurman, the Boland captain, revealed at the toss that the hosts' decision to bat first was so they could mount a defendable score.
Reeves-Fortuin (40) and Grant Roelofsen (24), who opened the batting, put Boland on the right path with a 58-run opening stand.
The Tuskers fought back in the first 10 overs after the powerplay with four wickets.
Sean Whitehead and Ziyaad Abrahams accounted for both openers before Wayne Parnell dismissed Gavin Kaplan and Lehan in three deliveries in the 19th over.
The double strike forced the hosts onto the back foot. Boland looked like they were destined for a total below 200 runs and were saved from that by Adams.
Sean Whitehead, Wayne Parnell, Malcolm Nofal, and Hardus Viljoen finished the innings with two wickets each.
However, the best of that lot were Whitehead and Parnell, who had identical economy rates of 2.5 runs an over.
Whitehead conceded 25 runs in 10 overs, while Parnell allowed 10 runs in four overs.
