The captains of the Momentum Multiply Titans and Hollywoodbets Dolphins shook hands late on Sunday afternoon after their YesPlay Pro20 Cup Super 8 contest at SuperSport Park ended as a no-result. The match was called off due to inclement weather.
The two teams only got three overs in before the umpires stopped the contest due to lightning. They did not have to wait long before the heavens opened up and rain fell steadily over the next hour.
Earlier in the afternoon, the toss had gone the hosts’ way and Donovan Ferreira, their captain, elected to bowl first. The visitors struggled to get the ball away in the first over; however, they unshackled themselves and raced to 28/0 in three overs. Bryce Parsons was unbeaten on 15 runs from 10 balls and his opening partner Ntando Zuma was on 13 not out from eight deliveries when play was stopped.
The hosts employed two bowlers. Eathan Bosch, who delivered the first and third overs, held his line well and conceded 16 runs in two overs. His new ball partner, Duan Jansen, suffered at the hands of the visitors and conceded 16 runs in a single over.
The result leaves the Titans in sixth place with 12 points from two wins, three losses and a single no result. They have the same number of points as the fifth-placed Garden Route Badgers. Both teams are three points behind fourth-placed YesPlay Cobras, who are due to play the Badgers in a must-win contest for both sides on Tuesday evening.
The Titans, who will play the Dafabet Warriors on Wednesday, are all but out of the running for a final four place. Their hopes are now held by a thin thread. They need the Badgers to defeat the Cobras and then to secure a bonus point victory over the Warriors to keep the semifinal dreams alive.
The Dolphins, on the other hand, came into the match with nothing but pride to play for. They were already out of the running for the final four. They are currently in seventh position with nine points from a single win, four losses and two no result contests.
