Goldrush Boland will begin their quest for 1 Day Cup success this weekend, determined to turn last season’s heartbreak into silverware, as they open their 2025/26 campaign against the Momentum Multiply Titans at SuperSport Park on Sunday.
Having finished as beaten finalists in the 2024/25 edition, Boland enter the new season with renewed focus and growing confidence following a strong start across formats this year. Under the leadership of captain, Clyde Reeves-Fortuin, the side has positioned itself among the leading teams in domestic cricket and will be eager to maintain that momentum in the 50-over competition.
“I think it’s been a good season so far,” said Fortuin. “We’re joint first on the overall log, so it’s been very pleasing that we’ve been competing in all formats. The challenge now is to carry that consistency into the 50-over competition again and make sure we build on what we’ve already achieved as a group.”
Boland’s journey last season saw them produce one of the most consistent campaigns in the competition, only to fall just short at the final hurdle. While the disappointment remains fresh, the squad has used that experience as motivation heading into the new campaign.

“We’re obviously very determined to go all the way this year,” Fortuin added. “Last year still hurts because we came so close after having a near-perfect campaign, but that’s cricket and it often comes down to very fine margins. The boys have put in the hard work during the off-season and leading into this tournament, so hopefully we can take that next step and go all the way.”
One of Boland’s strengths lies in the balance of their squad, blending seasoned campaigners with emerging young talent eager to make an impact. Fortuin believes that the combination has created a competitive environment within the team and given them the versatility needed to succeed in the one-day format.
“I think we’ve got a very well-balanced squad with a mix of experience and youth,” he added.
50 over cricket provides teams with far more time than 20 over cricket and there are different focuses for teams. For Fortuin, it's important to understand where the focus needs to be.
“For us, it’s important to start well in matches, but a key area will be controlling that middle period with both bat and ball because that’s where games can really get away from you. Managing those phases consistently is going to be crucial if we want to stay ahead in tight contests.”
With the 1 Day Cup featuring a condensed format, every result carries added significance, and teams must maximise their opportunities from the outset. Fortuin emphasised the importance of strong performances at home venues, where conditions and familiarity can offer a decisive advantage.
“Playing well at home will be massive for every side because you want to try and make that home ground your fortress,” he said.
“The nature of the tournament is that you only play seven games, so if you’re winning your home matches it puts you in a good position to reach the playoffs. That’s something we’re very aware of as a group.”
Boland’s opening fixture against the Titans presents an immediate test against one of the competition’s traditional powerhouses.
However, the team approaches the encounter with confidence, buoyed by their recent performances and the hunger to convert last season’s promise into tangible success.
