The highly anticipated CSA T20 Challenge match between the Dafabet Warriors and the DP World Lions at St.George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday night was abandoned without a ball bowled because of persistent rain and a sodden outfield which could not be prepared in time even if the rain had relented.
The result leaves the teams tied in third and fourth place on the log with six points from a victory, a loss and a no-result each.
Earlier in the day the Wenbro Limpopo Impalas were skittled out for just 91 by the Hollywoodbets Dolphins in Polokwane with captain Prenelan Subrayen returning the remarkable analysis of 4-1-11-5 and Tristan Luus claiming 2-13.
The Dolphins galloped home in 12.5 overs to claim a seven-wicket, bonus point victory with opener Romashan Pillay unbeaten on 52 and Hanu Viljoen 39 not out.
In Pietermaritzburg Lehan Boha (54) and Gavin Kaplan (38) underpinned Boland’s total of 187-5 which was too many for the home side, Moothee Ram Tuskers, who slumped to 124 all out in reply and defeat by 63-runs.
Left arm spinner Siyabonga Mahima claimed 4-20 with Akhona Mnyaka (2-26) and Ferisco Adams (2-11) a brace apiece.
At Newlands the YesPlay Western Province Cobras were given an almighty scare by the CSA Emerging XI at Newlands where local boy, Adnaan Lagadien, scored a scintillating 106 from just 58 balls (11x4, 6x6) with Jason Rowles adding 45* from 31 balls with four sixes as the youngsters piled up a total of 194-4.
Opener Eddie Moore anchored the reply with 49 from 31 balls but the biggest upset of the tournament was only averted by the cool head and clean ball-striking of Josh van Heerden who struck the winning boundary to finish on 88* from just 46 balls (5x4, 6x6) to see the hosts home with two balls to spare.
