Frenchman Axel Laurance won a tricky sprint finish on rain-slicked roads to take the fourth stage of the Tour of Croatia on Friday in Crikvenica, on the Adriatic Sea.
The hilly 219km stage, the longest of the six-day race finished in a downpour.
Laurance, a 21-year-old B&B Hotels ride in his first professional season, powered away from Italian race leader Jonathan Milan of Bahrain Victorious to take the first victory of his career.
"He was better," said Milan of Laurance. "I did what I could, but he was the strongest."
Milan collected a bonus to increase his lead of Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard, a Dane who rides for Jumbo, to 10 seconds.
Slovenian Matej Mohoric of Bahrain Victorious is third at 14 seconds.
The fifth stage will take the peloton 154km from Opatija to Labin and includes several climbs.
