Tobias Lund Andresen won stage three of the Tirreno-Adriatico race on Wednesday, the Dane prevailing in a bunch sprint as Isaac Del Toro maintained his slender overall lead.
Decathlon rider Lund Andresen won in an explosive end to a wet and largely uneventful 221-kilometre ride between Cortona and Magliano de' Marsi.
Wednesday's stage was always designed for the sprinters and the inclement conditions meant that no one tried to follow Spanish rider Diego Pablo Sevilla, who attacked early on and spent the first few hours of the stage out on his own.
It all came down to the final few hundred metres when home hope Jonathan Milan made his bid for victory only to be reined in by Lund Andresen before finishing seventh.
Del Toro increased his race lead over Giulio Pellizzari to four seconds after placing third in the intermediate sprint and then rolling over the line with the rest of the peloton.
Thursday's fourth stage is a difficult 213km run between Tagliacozzo and Martinsicuro which features a series of tough climbs before a flat finish on Italy's Adriatic coast.
