Stefan Kueng won the opening stage of the Tour of Switzerland on Sunday in Einsiedeln, 70km from the village of Wilen where he was born.
Groupama-FDJ's Kueng, 29, finished the 12.7km time trial in 13 minutes and 31 seconds, ahead of Belgian pair Remco Evenepoel and Wout van Aert.
"It's such a big relief to win here in front of the home crowd, my family is here, my wife and my son," Keung said.
"I saw all my friends and family here and that for sure gave me some extra motivation," he added.
Monday's second of eight stages is a 173.7km from Beromuenster to Nottwil and, as it involves some steep climbing, it is suited to the sprinters.
