Kaizer Chiefs moved seven points clear atop the Absa Premiership standings with a 2-0 win over Chippa United in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday evening, in the headline result of a busy midweek schedule.

Dumisani Zuma scored a brace for the Amakhosi, who continued their superb run of form at the same time that Mamelodi Sundowns dropped two valuable points away to Baroka in a boring 0-0 draw at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Brazilians looked out of sorts without the injured Gaston Sirino and Themba Zwane as they failed to conjure any notable chances throughout the match.

Cape Town City returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion with a 5-3 win over Polokwane City. Charlton Mashumba netted a hat-trick for Rise and Shine, with two of his goals coming late in the tie to make the scoreline a bit more respectable.

Bongi Ntuli also continued his scoring streak with a brace as AmaZulu claimed a 2-0 win over Stellenbosch FC to move above their opponents on the log standings.

Tuesday’s action featured a 3-1 win for Bloemfontein Celtic at home to Highlands Park, thanks to goals from Sera Motebang, Ndumiso Mabena and Menzi Masuku, while two other matches ended 0-0: Orlando Pirates at home to Maritzburg United (in a game which saw both Happy Jele and Kwanda Mngonyama red carded) as well as SuperSport United hosting Golden Arrows at Mbombela Stadium.

The Absa Premiership will continue with a full round of fixtures this coming weekend, 8-10 November, with the feature game the Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
