Life not the same without football - Thopola

Chippa United defender Diamond Thopola says the uncertainty over football's return due to the coronavirus pandemic has left him frustrated.

The 2019/20 PSL season remains suspended since March 2020 because of the deadly disease which has killed hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

The South African Football Association (Safa) and the PSL recently set up a task team which is expected to oversee the possible return of football in the country.

Thopola, who is on loan at the Chilli Boys from Orlando Pirates, appealed to South Africans to comply with the current lockdown regulations.

"It's really a difficult situation to be honest because we don’t know what will happen in the near future," Thopola told SuperSport.com.

"This pandemic is a very serious thing that the world, including our country, is facing.

"All we can do is to follow the instructions from our leaders (health officials) and the President [Cyril Ramaphosa], and stay at home and be safe."

Thopola, who has struggled with injuries this season, was doing rehab workouts just before the lockdown started on March 26.

Although the right-back misses football, he has been active at home as he engages in training programmers from Chippa's technical team which is led by Rhulani Mokwena.

"Otherwise we as Chippa United players have been given a programme which we are following while at home and we are being monitored every day," he said.

"Hopefully, things will get back to normal soon because we seriously miss our normal daily routines. We miss being on the field of play and we also miss football, but it is what it is."

The 30-year-old player, who is one of the senior players in the Chilli Boys squad, has made four competitive appearances for the team this season.
