Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana is not worried that they could miss out on this season's Absa Premiership title.

The current season has been suspended indefinitely since mid-March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Some European leagues including the French Ligue 1 have been cancelled amidst the COVID-19.

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) were then crowned Ligue 1 champions having topped the standings by 12 points with a game in hand at the time the league was halted.

"Oh well, PSG were leading by 12 points and there were few matches left in the league," Kekana told SuperSport.com.

"Here at home [in the Absa Premiership], we are talking about four points [and we also have] one game in hand."

Second-placed Sundowns were embroiled in a title race with their Gauteng rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, who are sitting at top of the league standings.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) recently revealed that the government has approved the protocol of regulations that will allow for PSL teams to resume training.

Kekana is one of the longest-serving players in the PSL having made his debut in the top flight league in 2004 while on the books of Black Leopards.

The 35-year-old central midfielder, who signed a new four-year deal at Sundowns last March, revealed the secret to his longevity.

"I would say I have been so lucky to have not experienced [a lot of] injuries over the years," he said.

"However, the most important thing I did was to find a routine that works for me and I have stuck to it.

"I was always willing to do the things nobody was willing to do in all [of] the teams I have played for," the former SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic player added.

Kekana has won the most PSL titles (6) - a record which he shares with his Sundowns teammates Anthony Laffor and Denis Onyango, and SuperSport legend Daine Klate.

"There are also people who support me like my family and friends. They have also helped me and they understand my goals," he said.

"They know what I need in order to reach a certain level in my game."

Kekana has scored twice in made 18 appearances in the Absa Premiership this season and recorded two assists in the process.
