AmaZulu midfielder Butholezwe Ncube is hoping to play a role in the club’s fight for Absa Premiership survival as he nears a return from an ankle injury.

The Zimbabwe international was injured before the season was placed on pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and had looked as though he would miss the remainder of the campaign, but the time off has given him a chance to regain his fitness.

“I got an injury just above the ankle on my right leg. But I am feeling stronger now and I am enjoying doing rehabilitation work all thanks to God,” he told his club’s website.

“[The break enforced by] Covid-19 has also helped me a lot because I am recovering well.”

Ncube is in his fourth season with Usuthu and remains a key figure. He insists the club’s performance on the pitch has not been as bad as their league position suggests, and he is confident of survival.

“Our performance has been great. We have done well as a team and it doesn’t matter which position we currently find ourselves in on the league log.

“All that matters is us changing things so that we can be safe in the league, and we are keeping each other focused.

“We don’t entertain negativity. We remain positive and we believe that we shall give our best when the league resumes.”

Usuthu are second bottom in the Absa Premiership, three points above the automatic relegation place with six games to go.
