Egypt let a lead slip in their 1-1 draw against Algeria in an international friendly match played at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE on Monday evening.

The Pharaohs are now undefeated in their last two matches and they will now turn their attention to next month's 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Djibouti and Sierra Leone.

Algeria, on the other hand, extended their unbeaten run to eight matches ahead of next month's 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Somalia and Mozambique.

The Pharaohs started brightly and they came close to scoring in the 19th minute when Mohamed Salah's attempt from inside the box hit the woodwork with the goalkeeper Anthony Mandrea well-beaten.

However, Egypt suffered a blow in the 26th minute when Mohamed Hany was sent off after making a reckless challenge on Ahmed Touba, but the score was 0-0 at halftime with the Pharaohs having contained the Desert Foxes.

Despite being numerically disadvantaged the seven-time African champions launched attacks after the restart and they managed to take the lead when Hamdy Fathy netted from close range in the 62nd minute to make it 1-0 to Egypt.

However, the Desert Foxes fought back in the latter stages of the game and they grabbed a late equalising goal through Islam Slimani who netted in stoppage time to ensure that the North African Derby encounter ended in a 1-1 draw.
