Golden Arrows DStv Diski Challenge coach Sibongiseni Cele has reacted to his side’s poor campaign in the Reserve League.
The two-time champions have been in their worst form in the history of the Diski Challenge.
Arrows are in position 13 with 22 points from 21 matches as the season edges closer to the final stages.
Cele said one of the factors that contributed to their poor campaign was lack of experience, but at the same time, he is happy with how the boys have improved from matchday one until this far.
The coach stated: “Seasons are not the same. I believe this one was not for us. We are disappointed with the position we are in and our results. But on the positive side, I am happy with these young players.
“It took them time to adapt but we can see progress. They have improved and I believe next season they will be well cooked.”
Having promoted most of the players who have been in the Diski, Arrows went to the FA League to inject new blood.
In the remaining games, Cele said a top-eight finish is a must and then in the top-eight cups where they will try to compete for silverware.
“We are still positive that we will finish in the top eight. All the teams we playing are ahead of us and against those teams we have fared well,” added Cele.
Arrows play hosts to Baroka FC on Saturday at Princess Magogo Stadium.
The kick-off is at 10am, CAT.
Having lost 4-3 to Swallows last weekend, Cele says this is a must-win match. They want to add more to Baroka’s woes.
Cele concluded: “We are confident we will get three points against Baroka. Our centre back, Sandile Ndlovu, is back from injury. Without him, our defence was shaky, but with him back, we would be able to deal with Baroka.
“Both of us [Baroka] were beaten big last weekend [Baroka were thumped 5-0 by Stellenbosch FC]. It will not be easy."
