Following a successful season in the DStv Diski Challenge where they helped the club win their first-ever reserve league title, Stellenbosch FC has rewarded four youngsters with first-team contracts.

Stellenboscg coach Evangelos Vellios revealed to the website that the club has promoted Liam de Kock, Lance Weaver, Oswin Andries and Devin Titus.

The quartet will be playing in the DStv Premiership next season. They join star defender Athenkosi Mcaba who was promoted early last season after impressing coach Steve barker.

Vellios said: “These players have shown that they can give us something in the first team hence we as coaches opted to promote them.

'They will be introduced gradually to ensure that they do not get under pressure and end up underperforming. We were impressed with their contribution in the Diski challenge last term.”

Stellies are on the verge of making history by becoming the second team to win both the league title and the Diski Shield following in the steps of Golden Arrows who are the most successful team in the Diski challenge.

Arrows have two Diski Challenge league titles and one Diski Shield which they won in 2019.

In the semifinals, Stellenbosch FC will face Chippa United on Saturday at Giants Stadium in Soshanguve at 10h00.

The Western Cape based club also have another four players who are in the Bafana Bafana Cosafa Cup squad.

They are the most represented team in that group with four players, Antonio van Wyk, Jayden Adams, Mcaba and Lebogang Nthene.

Mcaba (20) made his international debut for South Africa during the friendly defeat to France in March, becoming the first Stellies player to feature for the national team.
