Frustration for Tinkler as City held at home

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler was a picture of frustration after his side failed to turn a high per centage of possession into goals and were held by rookies Magesi in their Betway Premiership clash on Sunday.

While it was a third clean sheet in a row for goalkeeper Darren Keet, the draw at a rainy Athlone Stadium ended a run of two successive wins for City and denied them a chance to move up the table.

“I think Darren didn't have to make a save,” said Tinkler of a match without many scoring opportunities.

“We know they play a low block, and it was going to be about breaking it down. So, we worked on that in training. But we were just simply not good in that final third,” he added.

“You need to take certain risk; you need certain creativity. I thought we had the risk. We had the creativity but lacked the finer quality. You know, as much as when we talk about taking risk and creativity, you got to make sure the per centages are better. Too often, we lost the ball and we didn't create enough in front of goal.”

City had wave after wave of attack but the final pass into the area let them down.

“We created one chance that I remember in the first half with (Amadou) Soukouna turning and shooting, and then we had one chance with Heaven (Seeretsi) in the second that hit the crossbar. That was it.

“But imagine if we did score. Then you would be turning around and be saying … even myself, I would be saying … we controlled this match completely.

“But in the end, we didn't create enough in the final third, and didn't put the ball in the back of the net. But I don't think it was a case that we played poorl
