Former Bafana Bafana international Matlaba becomes the fourth signing in the January transfer window for the KwaZulu-Natal side, with goalkeeper Marlon Heugh, winger Mokete Mogaila and striker Mxolisi Macuphu the other new arrivals.
Matlaba, 34, who won 28 Bafana caps between 2011 and 2016, has also played previously for Free State Stars, Orlando Pirates and Black Leopards.
The new arrivals follow a mass exodus from the team as the owners trim their bloated squad that is a mixture of their team from last season in the GladAfrica Championship and players that arrived after the purchase of Bloemfontein Celtic’s top-flight status.
As many as 15 players and a number of backroom staff have been shown the door.
"As a team we have taken a cautious decision to trim the team to a manageable and affordable size," the club said in a statement.
"It is sad to part ways, but it is in the interests of the team and the players. We found it also important to allow the players the opportunity to go to other teams where they could get game time."
