Kaizer Chiefs’ new marquee signing Langelihle Phili hurt his ankle in training in the week and will not play for at least two months, said coach Fernando da Cruz.
The under-20 international, who has made a positive impact since his move from Stellenbosch at the start of the month twisted the ankle in training.
“It’s the bad news of the week,” said the Chiefs coach, who added the injury happened in a non-contact situation
Phili is among a host of younger players that Da Cruz has been looking to in a bid to have chiefs playing a high tempo game.
The 21-year-old scored against Mamelodi Sundowns in Chiefs’ third match of the season. He has had two league starts and one substitute appearance since his move.
The Chiefs coach said that defender Rushwin Dortley, 24, was back in training after his repeated knee problems but going to take his recovery slowly to make sure he did not break down again.
Dortley has twice had to have surgery and not played for almost 18 months.
