AmaZulu forward Bongi Ntuli is the epitome of a most valuable player to a club having scored the majority of his side’s goals in the Absa Premiership this season.

Quite incredibly, Ntuli has netted 12 of Usuthu’s 14 league goals this campaign, a whopping 86 percent, and has almost singlehandedly kept them off the bottom of the table. The side is still in big relegation danger, but it is clear that without the contribution of Ntuli, they could well have been cut off at the foot of the table already.

“I am really enjoying the responsibility of being a key player because I also have the support of my teammates, who never fail to motivate me in training sessions and even on match days as well,” Ntuli told SuperSport.com.

Ntuli netted the winner for AmaZulu in their 1-0 success over Kaizer Chiefs before the start of the pause in the season due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that was not his favourite strike.

“My favourite goal so far has to be the one I scored against Cape Town City [in a 2-2 draw] where I played combination football with teammate Talent Chawapiwa.”

Now 28, Ntuli has long been thought of as a top striker in the local league with bags of ability, but all too often has flattered to deceive by not living up to that billing.

The 2019-20 campaign is already his best in terms of goals score. His previous highest mark was seven, achieved last season with Usuthu, as well as in 2013-14 when on the books of Lamontville Golden Arrows.
