Ethiopia Coffee's resurgence in the BetKing Ethiopia Premier continued with a 2-0 win over Dire Dawa on Sunday.
In the other game at the Hawassa University Stadium, Jimma Aba Jifar and Arbaminch City ended goalless to ensure a rare point for Jimma.
Jimma Aba Jifar have been at the bottom all season as they were last season when they were relegated so this will be a sign for them that they could fight their way out of danger.
Abubekher Nasir shot Ethiopia Coffee into a lead in the 14th minute.
Coffee shot to 2-0 advantage when they earned a second penalty and up stepped Nasir to again dispatch the kick in the 64th minute.
Nasir had a weird start to the season, failing to get on the scoresheet until Week 5 when he grabbed a brace which earned Ethiopia Coffee their first win of the season.
It will appear he had gotten the monkey off his and Coffee's back as they earned a narrow 1-0 win last week so tonight's result really pushes them within touch of familiar territory as against the surprise bottom rungs they hugged for a few weeks.
The win moves Ethiopia Coffee up to sixth position with 11 points, three points behind league leaders, Fasil Kenema on 14 points.
Dire Dawa are 12th position, Arbaminch 8th and Jimma Aba Jifar, with one point remain, 16th and bottom of the pile.
