Mozambique and Angola drew 1-1 in a 2023 Cosafa Cup group C match at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in South Africa on Friday night.
The Mambas of Mozambique showed character as they fought back to hold Palancas Negras and they will now face Lesotho on Monday in their second group C game.
Angola, on the other hand, were left to rue their missed chances and they are now scheduled to battle it out with Mauritius on Monday in another group C encounter.
The Palancas Negras got off to the perfect start as they scored just three minutes into the game, with Benarfa scoring to make it 1-0 to Angola with Caneta providing the assist.
The Mambas responded by surging forward in numbers - searching for the equalising goal, but Palances Negras stood firm at the back, and coach Zeca Amaral's side was leading at the interval.
Mozambique pushed for the equalising goal after the restart and coach Chiquinho Conde decided to introduce Antonio with 15 minutes left on the clock.
The 27-year-old attacker proved to be an inspired substitution as he netted in the 83rd minute to ensure that the match ended in a 1-1 draw on the night.
