Orlando Pirates have moved to the top of the DStv Diski Challenge for the first time this season after they leapfrogged leaders Cape Town City FC with a vital 3-0 victory over Sekhukhune United.

The young Buccaneers went to the game against Babina Noko knowing that three points would take them to the top if Cape Town City slipped up.

Relebohile Ratomo scored a brace, while Sonwabo Khumalo scored the other goal to hand Pirates the most crucial victory on Saturday.

On Sunday, City had a chance to reclaim the spot, but they could not as they were frustrated with a goalless draw by Marumo Gallants.

Pirates now have 39 points from 18 games this season, and they are one point ahead of The Citizens, who are second in the log.

SuperSport United occupies the third spot with 37 points, one point behind City and two behind Pirates.

Without taking away anything from the other teams chasing the title, it looks like we will have a three-horse race again this year.

Last season Pirates were at the top for the better half of the season; however, when the going got tough, they succumbed to pressure and allowed Stellenbosch to win the league and SuperSport to finish second.

Without a doubt, they want to make up for the past campaign this season.

In other results, SuperSport continued with their fine form and thumped TS Galaxy 4-0 in a match that was part of the weekend festival at Wits Stadium.

Keenan Bezuidenhout, Tendamudzimu Matodzi, Yanela Mfolozi and Thabang Mahlungu were all on the scoresheet.

On Sunday, Swallows FC defeated Chippa United 1-0 in the bottom-of-the-table battle. Jordan Marks scored the only goal of the match to earn The Dube Birds maximum points.

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw. Jerome Karelse scored his 13th goal of the season to put Sundowns in the lead just before halftime.

In the second half, Amakhosi fought back to level matters through Donay Jansen, which resulted in the match ending with a 1-1 scoreline.
