Cape Town City FC failed to pile more pressure on Orlando Pirates in the DStv Diski Challenge title ras they suffered a frustrating 3-2 defeat against TS Galaxy on Saturday.

The Citizens, who have lost just twice so far this season, went to this match hoping they would continue where they left off last year. Nevertheless, that was not the case as their opponents TS Galaxy who were playing in front of home fans at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in Mpumalanga had other plans.

Banele Nkosi put Galaxy in the lead twice, but City were able to bounce back on both occasions and got an equaliser.

However, there was drama at the last minute of the match, and Galaxy was awarded a penalty. City goalkeeper Luca Diana-Oliaro denied Sanele Zulu from the spot-kick.

However, the penalty had to be retaken, and Zulu was able to convert the retake to hand Galaxy a 3-2 win.

The defeat saw Orlando Pirates, who are second in the log closing the gap from five points to two between them and Stellies, who are at the top of the log with 26 points.

Orlando Pirates 3-1 Chippa United

Relebohile Ratomo, Mohau Nkota and Cassius Spandiel were all on target when Orlando Pirates thumped Chippa United 3-1. The victory sees Pirates move to the second spot with 24 points after 12 games.

Maritzburg United 1-1 Golden Arrows

Mthokozisi Duma continued with his fine form in the Diski Challenge when he put Arrows in the lead against THE team of Choice in a KwaZulu-Natal derby. But his goal was cancelled by Lindokuhle Sithole’s goal at the stroke of halftime. In the second half, there was not much to write home about as the two sides drew 1-1.

Swallows 1-0 Mamelodi Sundowns

Swallows youngsters displayed one of their best performances as they managed to keep Mamelodi Sundowns at bay to take all three points on Sunday. Sundowns were the favourites to get all the points against Swallows, but the Dube Birds did not allow them as they showed grit and determination.

Ian Makaringe scored the only goal of the match in the 13th minute, which proved to be enough to earn them a win.

Kaizer Chiefs 0-1 Stellenbosch FC

The reigning Diski Challenge champions, Stellies, continued their quest to retain the title with a hard four 1-0 win over Chiefs. Cole Van Coller scored the only goal of the match.

Chiefs were without Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala, who are now part of the first team. They left a void seen on Sunday, and hopefully, coach Vela Khumalo will be able to close that void in their next game.
