SuperSport United are league champions
SuperSport United will be crowned the new DStv Diski Challenge Champions next weekend.
It has been confirmed beyond any shadow of a doubt that Matsatsantsa A Pitori will lift the prestigious reserve league title for the first time ever since its inception in 2014.
This comes after Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City, who were chasing Matsatsantsa at the top, dropped points this weekend.
Pirates were held to a goalless draw by Richards Bay FC on Saturday. Meanwhile, Cape Town City were stunned by TS Galaxy who came from a goal down to defeat them 2-1 at Tsakane Stadium on Sunday.
With them dropping points this weekend, it means they will no longer be able to match SuperSport’s 62 points that they have accumulated in 29 matches.
With five games to go, it looked like the title race was going to go down to the wire but Pirates and City dropped points when it mattered the most.
SuperSport stamped their authority with a 3-0 hammering of Swallows FC on Saturday. Thapelo Maseko, Thabang Mahlangu and Neo Rapoo scored the most important goals which took them to 62 points on the log.
SuperSport will now face Kaizer Chiefs in their last match of the season which is more like a dead rubber for them as the title has been decided already.
AmaZulu and TS Galaxy will battle for a place in the top eight next weekend. AmaZulu are currently occupying position eight with 42 points, they need a mere point in their last game of the season against Galaxy to secure a top-eight finish.
