Stellies thump Leicester to win Next Generation Cup

Stellenbosch FC Diski Challenge team were crowned champions of the Premier League Next Generation Cup after thumping Leicester City 7-2 on Saturday.

The Next Gen Midlands stream matches were played at Leicester Academy.

On their way to the final Stellenbosch defeated Nottingham Forest 4-1 while on the other side Leicester thumped Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC 6-3.

The two sides then met in the final where Stellies embarrassed the London side 7-2.

Devine Titus scored a hat-trick in the first half and the other goals came from Mervin Boji who scored a brace, and Kyle Jurgen and Oshwin Andries who scored a goal each.

Captain fantastic Titus, who scored a brace in the semifinal against Forest, opened the scoring in the 13th minute to put his side in the lead.

Two minutes later, he made it 2-0 after being assisted by Antonio Van Wyk.

The hosts pulled one back in the 20th minute through Kian Pennant.

Stellies restored their two-goal lead a minute later, with Titus completing his hat-trick.

Leicester fought back and made it 3-2 in the 28th minute via Richards Amani. Stellies made it 4-2 in the 34th minute with an absolute stunner from Jurgens who scored from the centre.

The two sides went to the break with the visitors in the lead.

In the second half, Stellenbosch continued with their dominance, creating chances with most of them falling for Jayden Adams who could not find the back of the net.

The Diski Challenge champions continued with their scoring spree in the 63rd minute when they made it 5-3 through clinical Mervin Boji.

Boji completed his brace two minutes later to make it 6-2.

Andries scored the last goal of the match making it 7-2 in the 78th minute.
