Marumo Gallants coach Matsemela Thoka has revealed the club’s plans to boost their squad ahead of their DStv Diski Challenge second round.
Gallants have been one of the weakest links in the reserve league past seven matches, and Thoka is looking forward to adding new blood in a bid to make their mark in the league.
The former Baroka coach said the lack of quality players has been their achilleas’ heel; hence they could not compete.
Explained Thoka: “Our team is not well balanced. We are not getting the good players that we want. Right now, you cannot compare ourselves with the likes of Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
“But we are trying to get players who will bring difference.”
Gallants went to the Christmas recess/ Fifa World Cup break sitting in position 11 with 13 points.
With the coach looking at finishing the campaign within the top eight, they will need much improvement when the league resumes in January.
Furthermore, Thoka is confident that they will be able to get the players they want in the festive tournaments.
He said: “It is promising, but we need a balance. We need a striker, a creative midfielder, a left back and a centre back. But in total, we will have plus or minus seven players that will impact not just any player.
“The December tournaments will give us that chance to look around for players who are based in our player in Limpopo. Because we are looking at players who are not far from where our club is based.”
“The mandate is to finish in the top eight, that would be a big achievement for the team.”
When the league resumes in January, Gallants will have a huge task ahead of them as they will face four complex teams Royal AM, Cape Town City FC, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United.
Arguably, those matches will go a long way in determining if the teams will be able to achieve their top-eight target.
