Stellenbosch FC maintained its place at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge after hammering Golden Arrows at Idas Valley Stadium.

After a seven-goal thriller in the 2022/23 finale, which Stellies won 4-3 to clinch their second Diski Challenge title, the encounter did not disappoint when it came to goals, with Stellenbosch recording their biggest 6-0 victory of the season. Kyle Bailey was the star of the show, scoring twice, while the other goals came from Tyler Cicero, Faiz Abrahams, Cheswyn Philander, and Tauric Gamildien.

The victory saw them keeping their place at the top with 17 points from eight outings, the same as second-placed Kaier Chiefs. The two sides are separated by goal margins as Stellenbosch have scored a whopping 21 goals so far.

Their impressive form has undoubtedly sent a strong message to their opponents who are eyeing the league title this season. It also suggests that we could have another humdinger of a title race as Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns’ and Orlando Pirates are also hitting the right notes in second, third and fourth positions.

Stellies would now be hoping to continue with the fine form on Saturday when they travel to Marumo gallants in Bloemfontein.

Polokwane City 0-4 Kaizer Chiefs

Chiefs youngsters completed a beautiful weekend for the club's fans base when they dismantled Polokwane City in the DDC on Sunday morning.

The Amakhosi first team had started the job on Saturday evening where they defeated SuperSport 4-0 in a cup match. To complete a perfect weekend the DDC team scored four goals as well with Thulani Mabaso, Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, Kabelo Nkgwesa and Mpho Khethang scoring a goal each player.

Sundowns 5-1 CT City

Thapelo Maseko and Siyabonga Mabena scored twice each player when they brushed aside The Citizens in the capital city on Saturday. Sipho Ngqakabana scored the other Sundowns goal.

This was a disappointing performance for City who have had a promising start to this years’ campaign. However, Sundowns’ proved to be too strong for them on the day. They would now hope to dust themselves against Chippa United on Sunday.

Chippa United 0-3 Orlando Pirates

Joseph Makhanya’s Pirates seem to be slowly finding their feet in the Diski Challenge after a shaky start. The Buccaneers recorded a 3-0 victory at the expense of Chippa United. Simphiwe Masilela, Siphamandla Msezane and Mehluleli Maphumulo scored for the Buccaneers.

Last weekend, Makhanya stressed the importance of converting most of their chances and the boys responded with a resounding victory scoring three goals.
