SuperSport United showed their class when they outplayed Orlando Pirates, beating them 2-0 to move to the top of the DStv Diski Challenge table at Rand Stadium on Saturday.

It was a top-of-the-table clash between the two sides as Pirates went to the match sitting top with 42 points while SuperSport were third, two points behind Pirates.

The highly anticipated encounter did live up to expectations, and it had it all, good football, goals and drama.

Tendamudzimu Matodzi scored the first goal for Matsatsantsa with a beautiful header converting Shandre Campbell well delivered cross 22nd minute of the game.

SuperSport were then in control of the match but fluffed a couple of opportunities in the first half, which resulted in the match going to the break with a 1-0 scoreline in favour of the visitors.

Pirates tried to fight back in the second half but could not break solid as rock SuperSport defence.

Pirates were reduced to 10 men in the 79th minute when Syabonga Ndlozi was shown a red card for a lousy tackle on Keenan Bezuidenhout.

Thabang Mahlangu extended SuperSport lead in the 80th minute.

The victory sees SuperSport move to the top of the log with 43 points after 20 matches. However, the length of their stay at the top would be determined by Sunday’s match between third-placed Cape Town City FC and Royal AM.

A win for City over Royal AM will see The Citizens reclaiming the No 1 position, and SuperSport will drop to second while Pirates occupy the third spot.

In other matches played on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs defeated Chippa United 3-2 in Gqeberha, Golden Arrows thumped Marumo Gallants 4-0, and Mamelodi Sundowns lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy.

Chippa United remains at the bottom of the log with 10 points after 20 games.
