SuperSport United extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches with a 5-2 thumping of Chippa United in the DStv Diski Challenge and moved to the top of the log.

The victory means the Young Spartans have now won eight games. They are two victories away from equaling a record of 10 straight wins, which they set last season.

From 21 games, SuperSport have gathered 46 points. They are one point ahead of second-placed Cape Town City FC [who have 45 points] and three ahead of third-placed Orlando Pirates [who have 43 points in their name].

On Sunday, Thabang Makubo, Shandre Campbell, Tendamudzimu Matodzi and Keenan Bezuidenhout [brace] were all on the scoresheet when SuperSport brushed aside Chippa, who are languishing at the bottom of the table.

In another highly-anticipated fixture played in Cape Town on Sunday, City derailed Pirates' title hopes when they held them to a 1-1 draw.

The hosts were the first to find the back of the net in the first half through Jody Ah Shene.

The Buccaneers fought back in the second half and only managed to secure a point from Sonwabo Khumalo, who converted from a spot-kick.

This was Pirates' second match in a row failing to get maximum points. Last weekend they were beaten 2-0 by SuperSport United, who are now at the top of the log.

With nine games left, a lot of drama is expected in the Reserve League, which has proved to be one of the most competitive leagues in the country.
