Richards Bay FC head coach Nkosenhle Ngema has said his team needs to get a striker in the DStv Diski Challenge.
The Natal Rich Boys are enjoying their first season in the PSL reserve league after the club was promoted from First Division at the end of last season.
They have had a fairly run in the Diski Challenge considering that their squad is made up of players who are in the professional setup for the first time.
Out of six games played in the reserve league so far, Bay have won twice drew once and lost three.
In the process, Ngema’s team have netted seven times while conceding nine.
Ngema said in order for the club to replicate the same form that has been shown by the first team in the DStv Premiership, they need a player to score them goals.
Ngema remarked: “We do not have a striker, and that is not only our problem is the problem in the whole country. We are really lacking upfront. But for now all them are fine, we just need a striker.
“We have been missing a lot of chances, but I am confident we will get things right.
The Natal Rich Boys are not looking at challenging for the title as they are still trying to get used to the setup. They will start challenging for the title in the next campaign.
Ngema added: “On first season we want to finish within the top eight teams, as a new team we can’t say we want to win the league that would be fooling ourselves.”
“Another challenge we have is to get the players used to the setup as most of them are from rural areas and playing first time. It will take them some time to adjust to the setup.
“As much as we have lost three games so far it is not that opponents were far better than us.”
Bay will travel to Harry Gwala Stadium where they will face Maritzburg United in a provincial derby on Saturday.
Kick-off for the match is at 10h00, CAT.
