AmaZulu moved to the top of the DStv Diski Challenge for the first time this season.
Usuthu seems to be in fine form as they registered their seventh victory of the season this past weekend beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in KwaZulu-Natal.
With Stellenbosch FC having dropped points when they were beaten 1-0 by TS Galaxy and Cape Town City's match against Swallows being postponed, Usuthu moved to the top of the table with 21 points from 10 games.
After ten games, they dethroned The Citizens from the top spot for the first time this season. But City has one game in hand as they have only played nine.
Usuthu looks to have recovered from the Diski Shield Cup hangover they had last season. After winning Shield in 2019, AmaZulu were the shadow of themselves in the past campaign. They failed to live up to expectations of challenging for the title as they finished far from the top eight.
Usuthu will now have to beat The Citizens in their last game of the year this coming Sunday if they want to go to break sitting at the top.
The two teams will face each other at Malta Park in Cape Town on Sunday.
In other Diski Challenge matches, SuperSport United became the first team to score five goals in two consecutive games this season. Last weekend, the previous season's runners-up defeated Chippa united 5-1. On Sunday, they continued where they left off against Chippa when they hammered Sekhukhune United 6-1.
