With outgoing Orlando Pirates striker Boitumelo Radiopane having set the bar high, scoring 24 goals in the DStv Diski Challenge last season, strikers will have a mountain to climb in the upcoming campaign.

Radiopane eclipsed Nkosikhona Dube’s 2020 tally of 22 goals in the Diski Challenge.

With the Diski Shield currently under way, Kaizer Chiefs Wandile Duba has raised his hand as one player to look out for next season when it comes to scoring goals.

In two Diski Shield matches Duba has scored three goals. He scored a brace when Chiefs best SuperSport United 4-2 in the last eight.

He also scored a stunner when his side beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 last Saturday to book a place in the tournament’s final.

Duba also fired in five goals in six games during the Engen Knockout Challenge a fortnight ago to help the Amakhosi youngsters win the tournament.

His coach Vela Khumalo has been full of praise for the lad and has tipped him to be among the best players in the Diski Challenge.

Last season Duba gave some glimpse of what to expect from him scoring a couple of goals for Amakhosi but now it looks like he has taken it to another level.

Khumalo described him as “a deadly striker with confidence”.

“Wandile is truly special, and I believe he will be a great player in the future. He needs to keep focused and work hard, and he will do a lot for this country.”

Talking to the club website Duba vowed that there’s still more to come from him.

Confident Duba said: “The supporters must expect more goals from me. I have set my ambition to score more goals and I want to be in the list of the top scorers in the DStv Diski Challenge.”

The youngster would be expected to continue with his goalscoring spree in the Diski Shield final against Stellenbosch on Saturday at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu Natal.

The kick-off is at 1pm CAT (SA, GMT+2)
