DStv Champ of Champs set for epic semis
Day four of the DStv eKasi Champ of Champs was judgment day, when the men were separated from the boys as the semifinalists and the plate teams were confirmed at KwaMahlobo in Soweto on Sunday.
A brace from Mpho Mlangeni inspired Chipolopolo to a massive 5-1 victory over the Ambassadors to seal a semifinal place against favourites Beke le Beke.
Other goals for Chipolopolo came from Ndumiso Mukansi in the 24th minute, Philani Masondo on the half hour mark and Sibusiso Hlatshwayo in the 33rd minute. Mlangeni added the icing on the cake with a double with his first goal coming in the 56th minute.
La Masia continued with their impressive run in the tournament as they rounded up their unbeaten run with a narrow 1-0 win over Vaal Monate courtesy of a 62nd-minute strike by Luciano van Heerden.
The win means La Masia finish top of Group 1 and will face Chego for a place in the final.
Chego secured their spot in the semifinals with a 2-1 over strugglers Free Agents who have really found the going tough in this tournament as they failed to win even a single match and finished bottom of Group 1 with a single point.
Chego did the business in the first half with goals from Aldrick Pandemoya in the 21st minute and Thamsanqa Sethole in the 40th minute.
Abbey Dwusu pulled one back in the 52nd minute to set up a tense final few minutes.
The teams will get a well-deserved break and return to action on 25 June with the Plate semifinals and the Cup semifinals slated for 26 June.
