Midfielder Keegan Buchanan will return to training at AmaZulu on Wednesday, club officials said, just weeks after he was told he was no longer needed by the club.
Buchanan and former Bafana Bafana fullback Ramahlwe Mphahele were both cast out of the team by former coach Romain Folz, but the pair are now back in the fold after last week’s dismissal of the Frenchman and his replacement by Ayanda Dlamini.
Buchanan, who turned 32 last week, returned to his Cape Town home after being told he was not wanted but is reporting for duty again on Wednesday.
“I got them back because I feel we need them,” said Dlamini.
“Rama has been very good for us. I don't remember a game where he didn't do well for us. Keegan Buchanan has not played much, but he's a very experienced player.
“So I felt they should come back. Even if you look at (Augustine) Kwem, he hasn't played a lot this season, but did very well,” added Dlamini about the Nigerian striker’s dramatic last-gasp equaliser in Sunday’s DStv Premiership clash against Cape Town City.
“It reminds me of the situation when I was first asked to take over as coach, it was a 2019-2020. There were players that were suspended back then, Major (Lehlohonolo Majoro) was one of them. There were quite a few others. (Thembela) Sikhkakhane was one of them, I brought them back. And we managed to save the team because I felt that we needed them. And you know, when we brought those players back it lifted up their teammates,” the coach said.
