SuperSport United put up a display of determination as they fought back to earn a point in their 1-1 draw against Polokwane City in the DStv Premiership at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The result sees SuperSport continue their winless streak in the league, but they will breathe easy having battled to get a point against the visitors.

The opening minutes of the game was high pressure as Polokwane City gave it their all against Matsantsantsa.

The team has been struggling in the league lately, failing to pick up a win in their last five fixtures.

Goalkeeper Ricardo Goss was given a straight red card for a risky challenge on Rise and Shine’s Simon Ramabu just before the half hour mark.

SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt was forced to make an early tactical change as Bradley Grobler made way for Washington Arubi in the 32nd minute.

The team then found their shape once again as they pushed on despite the circumstances.

Though they were reduced to 10 men, SuperSport held their ground and the scoreline was goalless at halftime, showing a decent recovery despite their early blunder in the match.

Oswin Appollis opened the scoring in the 56th minute, but their celebrations did not last long as Aphiwe Baliti came off the bench and delivered a sensational cross that was headed in by Etiosa Ighodaro in the 68th minute.

The game continued with intensity as both teams tried to get the lead and grab all the points.

It ended 1-1, with the teams sharing the spoils.

SuperSport are fifth in the DStv Premiership table and Polokwane City are currently occupying 11th.

Both teams are set to play again this coming weekend in the league, with SuperSport hosting Chippa United on Saturday, while Rise and Shine will welcome Cape Town City on Sunday.
