Cape Town City made it three games unbeaten in the DStv Premiership after they secured a dramatic 1-0 win over TS Galaxy at the DHL Stadium on Friday night.

Eric Tinkler's side created the better chances throughout in the Mother City and Lyle Lakay hit the post in the second half before Taariq Fielies popped up with the winner two minutes from time.

The Citizens moved up to sixth position courtesy of their sixth win of the season, with the Rockets dropping to 11th in the standings after going winless in four games.

City just shaded the possession stakes in the first half but they made by far the better use of the ball and restricted Galaxy to just two shots.

The hosts made a bright start and threatened twice early on when Juan Camilo Zapata headed a corner wide of the right post in the second minute before Bertrand Mani directed a header fractionally past the same upright from Thamsanqa Mkhize's cross on three minutes.

Mani was again guilty of failing to hit the target with a header on 27 minutes after getting on the end of Lakay's cross from the left, while Zapata did manage to test Vasilije Kolak from a tight angle on the right moments later.

After Xola Mlambo had an earlier shot blocked from inside the area, the visitors' only other chance saw Mlungisi Mbunjana try his luck from a long way out but failed to trouble Darren Keet in the 34th minute.

Galaxy had the first sniff at goal after the restart as Tshegofatso Nyama picked out Mlambo inside the box and his shot was tipped over the crossbar by Keet in the 49th minute.

The Citizens were soon on the attack, however, and Zapata drew a fine save out of Kolak with a strike from range on 52 minutes, while back up the other end Mlambo steered a header just to the right of the goal from a 55th-minute corner.

Fielies got his header all wrong from Lakay's free-kick on 64 minutes before the woodwork came to the Rockets' rescue a minute later when the on-loan Mamelodi Sundowns left-back struck the left post with another set-piece.

Masilakhe Phohlongo was brought on for the injured Orebotse Mongae on 72 minutes and he almost made an immediate impact when he forced Keet into a save with an effort from inside the box three minutes later.

Kolak made a crucial save to deny Thabo Nodada from distance with seven minutes left on the clock but he was eventually beaten in the 88th minute as Fielies slotted home from close range to clinch victory after a corner dropped into his path.
