Runaway DStv Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns will be looking to put the record straight when they face TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Kick-off is at 7.30pm CAT (SA, GMT+2)
The Rockets made waves when they beat the defending champions 1-0 at Loftus Versfeld in the second game of the season, with Lifa Hlongwane the hero in the reverse fixture.
Rulani Mokwena's side have only lost once since then and a 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday extended their winning streak in the league to an impressive 12 matches.
The Brazilians are 16 points clear of the chasing pack after closest challengers Richards Bay and SuperSport United played out to a 1-1 draw at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
Mokwena paid tribute to everyone involved at Chloorkop in setting a new top-flight record for consecutive wins and expressed his gratitude to the Motsepe family for putting the club back on the map.
"Huge kudos to the football club and the whole organisation deserves all the praise, this would've never been possible if it was just an individual effort," he said.
"So huge congratulations should definitely go to the board, staff, and the Motsepe family for their continued contributions towards football and their hand in putting together the Sundowns we see today."
Galaxy saw a seven-game unbeaten run come to an end on Friday when they lost 1-0 to Cape Town City at the DHL Stadium, where Taariq Fielies struck in the 88th minute to settle the contest.
It was the fourth match in succession in which Sead Ramovic's team had failed to score after three goalless draws in a row and they've managed just one win in 14 outings since claiming back-to-back victories against Sundowns and SuperSport in August.
Ramovic felt the Mpumalanga outfit deserved at least a point against the Citizens but acknowledged they need to improve in the final third to get back to winning ways.
"Of course, it's painful if you get a goal in the last three minutes because I think my team deserved a point, minimum," the German said.
"We have to play our last pass again a little bit better but all in all I think we played well. We had some opportunities but we have to do much, much better [in those situations].
"After seven games that we didn't lose, now it's the first game that we lost and of course away, it's not easy against a great Cape Town team that is well organised."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
TS Galaxy:
Xola Mlambo: The 31-year-old midfielder played in a more advanced role against City and found pockets of space on numerous occasions in the final third. Mlambo forced Darren Keet into a good save from inside the box on the left early in the second half as he looked for his second goal of the season.
Djakaridja Traore: Goals have been hard to come by for Galaxy this season and the 24-year-old Ivorian striker is the main contributor with three of their eight goals. Traore has yet to find the back of the net in 2023 after bagging a brace against Maritzburg United on New Year's Eve.
Mamelodi Sundowns:
Neo Maema: The 27-year-old attacking midfielder is in a rich vein of form for Sundowns, having taken his tally for the season to five goals with his 20th-minute winner against Chiefs. It was Maema's fourth goal in six league appearances and he's played a crucial role in the Brazilians' title charge.
Cassius Mailula: The 21-year-old winger had a quiet game against Amakhosi before suddenly bursting to life in the 59th minute when he quickly shifted the ball to the left and fired into the side netting from 12 yards out on the left. Mailula, who has five goals and three assists in nine league outings, set up Gaston Sirino on 75 minutes but the Uruguayan stabbed the ball just wide of the left post.
