Eric Tinkler's Cape Town City made it six wins on the spin after beating Golden Arrows 1-0 at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Sunday evening.
Khanyisa Mayo's deflected goal after just eight minutes proved to be the difference in Hammarsdale as the Citizens went a point clear of Mamelodi Sundowns at the summit, with Abafana Bes'thende unmoved in fourth spot after suffering a third consecutive defeat.
Earlier in the day, Kaizer Chiefs bounced back from their derby disappointment against Orlando Pirates by edging neighbours Moroka Swallows 1-0 at the Dobsonville Stadium.

Chiefs climbed up to sixth in the table, one point shy of the Dube Birds (5th), who saw their impressive five-game unbeaten run come to an end.
Meanwhile, Polokwane City began life without Lehlohonolo Seema on a bad note after going down 3-0 to TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium.
The Rockets hit the front through Spiwe Mahlangu (12') early on before second-half goals from Mpho Mvelase (70') and Samir Nurkovic (90+3') secured their first win in four matches, leaving Rise And Shine winless in their last five outings.
