The DStv Premiership rollercoaster season continued as some exciting showdowns took place at the weekend, with the big three dropping points and some strange things being said.
Marumo Gallants sent a team sheet with head coach Romain Folz downgraded to assistant coach and Raymond Mdaka listed as a head coach. The club chairman Abram Sello gave a confusing explanation for the mix-up. However, he insisted that Folz is still his man, with the great Phumlani Msibi probing and poking holes into the story.
The SuperSport “kids” recorded the club’s first league win over Mamelodi Sundowns in 11 years. Bradley Grobler had surprisingly never scored against Sundowns and he finally broke his duck to secure maximum points for Matsatsantsa. Julia Stuart asked Gavin Hunt if he knew when last SuperSport beat their neighbour and his answer will leave you rolling on the floor.
AmaZulu played to a goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs and the Usuthu coach likened the season to running the Comrades Marathon.
Here is the weekend in quotes:
“We were expecting the coach here but while I was up there they said due to unforeseen personal circumstances, he is not there. We were with him last night during preparation and I still don’t know what’s happening. I have to find out. As far as I know, he is still my coach, nothing about resigning or fiction. 100 per cent he is still my coach, I expect him in camp on Monday when we train." – Marumo chairman Abram Sello.
“The way games are coming at the moment is ridiculous, it’s the same for everybody but we are not dealing with robots here, and machines break as well. These are human beings and running every three days 10, 12 and 15km in a game against Cape Town City, every three days, not even a Comrades Marathon can do that." - AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter.
“Was I here…." - SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt
