Five Facts about Sundowns v Stellenbosch

Until last season Mamelodi Sundowns had won their previous four league clashes against Stellenbosch. Having completed home and away league wins over them in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 season.

Last season was the first time in three seasons of league clashes between the sides that Stellenbosch had managed to avoid defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns, in both league meetings between the teams in a single campaign.

Last season the teams first played out a 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch as hosts, Junior Mendieta opening the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot before Lyle Lakay levelled for Sundowns. This game taking place on the 4th December 2021.

The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 3-0 win for Stellenbosch, their first league win over Mamelodi Sundowns. The game on the 14th May 2022 saw Ashley Du Preez score a brace either side of a goal by Jayden Adams.

Sundowns only home league loss in the 2021-22 season was against Stellenbosch, they were undefeated in their other 14 home league games last campaign (W11 D3).

Sundowns only failed to score in two home league games in the 2021-22 season one of the games was against Cape Town City a 0-0 stalemate, the other was against Stellenbosch. The two Western Cape Teams were the only two teams to keep a clean-sheet during the 2021-22 season in an away league game against Sundowns.
