Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City played to an exciting 2-2 draw in their latest DStv Premiership encounter this week, as second-half substitute Heaven Sereets came off the bench to net an all-important equalizer at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

While the first-half ended 2-1 in favour of the home side, Sereets opened his account for City in stunning fashion and subsequently prevented Sekhukhune from recording their sixth straight win in the league.

Cape Town City commenced the game as the better of the two outfits as the likes of Jaeden Rhodes and Ahshene Jody Lee threatened the Sekhukhune defence early on.

Not holding back, Sekhukhune produced a couple of scoring chances of their own inside the first 10 minutes of the game.

As the Citizens continued to probe, Jode Lee opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of the match as he registered his first goal for the Western Cape outfit with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box.

However, Babina Noko replied just six minutes later as the in-form Linda Mntambo joined Jody Lee on the scoreboard.

Assisted by Vusimuzi Mncube, Mntambo popped up in the centre of the 18-yard-area before guiding the ball home to the goalkeeper’s bottom left.

VENOMOUS STRIKE

With wind in their sails, Sekhukhune took the lead shortly before the halftime whistle following a swift break into the City half.

Picked out by Maloisane Mokhele, Mntambo then doubled his tally on the night with a finish from close range.

City bossed the possession count soon after the restart as Darwin Gonzalez probed on the edge of the Babina Noko area.

While the Citizens actively searched for an equaliser, Sekhukhune held tight and looked solid in defensive settings.

In looking to change the complexion of the game, Eric Tinkler reshuffled his attacking department with the introduction of Khanyisa Mayo and Sereets.

The double substitution appeared to be the masterstroke needed for City as Sereets levelled matters in the 65th minute with a venomous effort from range.

After scoring the equaliser, the Mother City began strutting their stuff at the Peter Mokaba Stadium and starved the home side of the ball during the closing stages of the match.

However, Babina Noko did enough to keep the Citizens at bay as the game ended in a 2-2 stalemate at the end of the final whistle.
