SuperSport goes big for Soweto derby

Big match, big action, big plans.

SuperSport will be going all out for this weekend’s Soweto derby, the famous match that pits Orlando Pirates against Kaizer Chiefs in a must-see DStv Premiership showdown at Orlando Stadium.

Build-up to the Saturday derby begins at 2.30pm (kick-off 3.30pm) on the SS PSL channel (Southern African viewers) and the SS Action channel for the rest of Africa. It will also be streamed live on Showmax Pro.

In keeping with the status of the fixture, the TV build-up will begin one hour before kick-off.

Anchored by Carol Tshabalala from an on-site studio at the stadium, she will be joined by former Orlando Pirates midfielder Teko Modise and former Kaizer Chiefs captain Jimmy Tau. Phumlani Msibi will handle proceedings pitch-side and will be joined by ex-Orlando Pirates striker Thulasizwe Mbuyane and former Chiefs midfielder Josta Dladla.

Both teams will tackle various talking points, from the history of the Soweto derby and match preparations to the venue’s history surrounding this traditional match, key players going into the match and whatever else is vying for fans’ attention ahead of kick-off.

There will also be live interaction with the SuperTube team broadcasting live from Maponya Mall, no doubt capturing the excitement around the clash on the YouTube channel.

The commentary teams will be Mark Gleeson and William Shongwe (English), Reginald “Mapensela” Ndlovu (isiZulu) and Tshepo Maimane (SeTswana).

To ensure every possible angle is covered, the game will enjoy broadcast via 26 cameras which include four super-slomos camera, one ultra-slomo, a jib camera and a drone camera for graphics that will include player tracking, recording both distances and speed.
