Kaizer Chiefs have now drawn three games in a row in the DStv Premiership following their stalemate against Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The team remains eighth in the league standings, but the pressure to maintain the position continues.

In a match that Chiefs would’ve been desperate to win as veteran goalkeeper Itumeng Khune was honoured for 25 years of service, things didn’t exactly go according to plan for the Soweto team.

In the beginning stages of the match, the Glamour Boys were holding the ball well and looked to be in cruise control. They had a chance in the 20th minute through Mduduzi Shabalala but Polokwane City were well prepared in the box.

It was pretty much one-way traffic in the first half, but Chiefs failed to find the end product, showing their struggles with finishing in front of goal this season. The half ended all square at the break, with chances missed by both teams.

The second half was more intense as the stakes were a lot higher. Tlou Nkwe delivered a low cross that went across the face of goal, but Hlayisi Chauke could not finish their biggest chance of the match in the 58th minute.

Another chance came shortly afterwards for Rise and Shine but Oswin Appollis struggled to get going on his weaker foot. Chiefs’ best chance of the match was through Christian Saile as he charged in the attack, but his effort was quickly cleared off the line.

The match finished goalless, as both teams could not find the breakthrough to make sure that they walked home with all three points. The result sees Kaizer Chiefs remain in eighth position while City stay in 10th position.
