Kaizer Chiefs go down in friendly match to Rollers
Kaizer Chiefs ended their pre-season with a 1-0 loss to Botswana outfit Township Rollers at the National Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Amakhosi enjoyed much of the possession during the opening stages but battled to get decisive deliveries into the opposition’s final third. Chiefs were certainly the dominant side and ended the first half with more possession, and chances which they unfortunately couldn't convert.
Former Rollers defender Thatayaone "TT" Ditlhokwe, who captained the Amakhosi on the day was solid in defence alongside Njabulo Ngcobo as they limited the Rollers attack to only a handful of shots from distance.
The game eventually opened up in the second half following a number of early substitutions by both sides. Thabo Rakhale, one of the substitutes for Rollers, broke the deadlock in the 79th minute by rifling past Bruce Bvuma in the Chiefs' goal after he was put through by fellow substitute Letlhogonolo Chenjela.
The match was played in front of a vociferous crowd. Chiefs will now turn their focus to the start of the DStv Premiership where they are expected to take on Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 6 August.
