In the latest game week in the DStv Premiership, Orlando Pirates claimed bragging rights in the world-renowned Soweto Derby on Saturday, while Cape Town City recorded a fifth straight league win for the first time in their history.

To begin with, Cape Town City hosted Royal AM at the DHL Stadium on Friday, in what was an exciting fixture to kick off the weekend’s DStv Premiership action. Goals by Jaedin Rhodes and Thabo Nodada saw the Citizens create history as they bagged their fifth straight win in the league for the first time.

Elsewhere, Orlando Pirates were crowned kings of Soweto this weekend, following their 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium. With there being little to separate the two sides throughout the 90 minutes, Evidence Makgopa’s strike in the 20th minute proved to be the difference maker on the day.

After two victories on the spin, Pirates now occupy 7th on the log, while Amakhosi linger in 10th place.

Also, Cape Town Spurs suffered a narrow 1-0 loss against Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Adding to their woes this season, Therlo Moosa missed a 94th minute penalty, as the Urban Warriors recorded their 10th loss in the 2023/24 league campaign.
