Pirates confirm signing of Angolan winger

Orlando Pirates have confirmed the signing of Angolan Delvi Miguel Vieira, better known as Gilberto, as coach Jose Riveiro seeks to refresh his squad ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season and another shot at the CAF Champions League.

Right winger Gilberto arrives from Angolan side Petro Atletico, where he was a star name, and will reportedly cost The Buccaneers in the region of R12million.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Delvi Miguel Vieira,” the Soweto giants said in a statement. “The 23-year-old joins the club on a three-year deal after passing a medical and finalising personal terms.

“The enterprising forward comes off an impressive season where he starred at the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast earlier in the year, helping guide Angola to the quarterfinals of the competition.

“Gilberto is due to fly back to Angola today to finalise the necessary paperwork so that he can join the squad for its outbound preseason tour to Spain from July 8.”
