Stats and Facts: Swallows FC v AmaZulu

This is the fifth league meeting between the teams, AmaZulu are yet to lose to Swallows FC in a league games (W2 D2).

In the past two seasons the games have seen exactly the same score-lines, with one game ending in a 0-0 draw and AmaZulu winning the other 1-0.

In the 2020-21 season with Swallows as hosts the game ended 0-0, the second fixture between the teams ended in a 1-0 win for AmaZulu. While last season AmaZulu won the corresponding fixture 1-0 with Sphesihle Maduna, scoring the game’s only goal as they travelled to face Swallows, this was on the 3rd May 2022.

The earlier meeting last season with AmaZulu as hosts ended 0-0.

Swallows FC in four league meetings against AmaZulu are yet to keep a clean-sheet or score against them.

Current AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter was Swallows FC coach between 2019 and 2021, he oversaw their promotion to the top-flight at the end of the 2019-20 season. Truter was let go by Swallows FC last season.

Truter was relieved of his post by Swallows last season after the team went on a 12- game winless run in the league (D6 L6), this after winning their opening game of the season a 1-0 triumph over Royal AM. His last league game in charge was a 1-1 league draw with Maritzburg United on the 4th December 2021 at home.

As Swallows FC coach in this fixture Truter was unable to win, in three league games as their coach against AmaZulu his record was L1 D2. He has though won in this fixture he was AmaZulu coach when they defeated Swallows FC 1-0 away from home on the 3rd May 2022.

Swallows opened up the season with a 1-0 away loss to Orlando Pirates they then defeated Cape Town City 3-2 at home, before a 0-0 draw away to Maritzburg United in their last league game.

Dylan Kerr Swallows FC Coach meets AmaZulu as a coach in a league game for the fifth time, his record in these games reads W1 D2 L1. His only win was as Black Leopards coach a 3-1 home triumph on the 15th December 2018, since then he has failed to win his last three league meetings against them (D2 L1).

Kerr as a coach was undefeated in league meetings against AmaZulu that three- game unbeaten run ended last season when Swallows lost 1-0 at home, on the 3rd May.

Swallows FC goalkeeper Thakazani Mbanjwa has made 10 saves this season the second most of any goalkeeper in the league at the moment, with AmaZulu’s Veli Mothwa making 9.

Swallows three goals this season have been scored by three different players, while AmaZulu’s four goals have also been scored by three different players with only Gabadinho Mhango (2) managing more than one.

Victory for AmaZulu will take them to 10 points, they will have gotten their points tally into double figures faster than they did in 2020-21 when they finished second. In 2020-21 it took them 9 games to get to 10 points, while last season it took them 10 games to get to 12 points, they amassed a total of 12 after 10 games last season.

In 2020-21 Swallows FC had collected 7 points after three league games, they drew their fourth 0-0 against TS Galaxy. They reached double figures by winning their fifth league game against Kaizer Chiefs, which took their points tally 11 after five games.

Last season after three league games Swallows FC also had four points as they do this season, they lost their third league game to Orlando Pirates and then were defeated 3-0 by SuperSport United in their fourth league game of the campaign.
