Fully two months since the last match, the DStv Premiership will resume with a flurry of action as no less than 12 matches will be played between Friday and Tuesday.
The league took an enforced break due to the Fifa World Cup, when local players had to satisfy themselves with heavy training but no official fixtures.
If changes in form and tactics can reasonably be expected, there will be no changes in SuperSport's approach to telling the PSL story. As ever, this will be done with heavyweight presenters and analysts, cutting-edge graphics, studio build-ups and post-match wraps that go to the heart of team performances.
Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns remain the standard bearers in first position, but with both Richards Bay and SuperSport United chasing hard, all bets are off as to who will start hot this week.
Sundowns return on Friday in a huge fixture, hosting Orlando Pirates (3.30pm), while SuperSport United host Marumo Gallants on Friday (7.30pm). Richards Bay, in turn, welcome Swallows to their home base on Saturday (3.30pm).
Other fixtures are Stellenbosch v Chippa United (Friday, 5.30pm); Cape Town City v Royal AM (Friday, 5.30pm); Maritzburg United v TS Galaxy (Friday, 7.30pm); Golden Arrows v Kaizer Chiefs (Saturday, 3.30pm); Sekhukhune United v AmaZulu (Saturday, 5.30pm); Royal AM v TS Galaxy (Tuesday, 7.30pm); Cape Town City v SuperSport United (Tuesday, 5pm); Mamelodi Sundowns v Swallows (Tuesday, 7.30pm); Sekhukhune United v Marumo Gallants (Tuesday, 7.30pm).
The following matches will be broadcast live, with the remainder available via streaming on the SuperSport app: Sundowns v Pirates (SS PSL and SS Variety 4); Cape Town City v Royal AM (SS PSL); SuperSport United v Marumo Gallant (SS PSL); Golden Arrows v Kaizer Chiefs (SS PSL); Cape Town City v SuperSport United (SS PSL); Mamelodi Sundowns v Swallows (SS PSL).
The new year will also herald a return of viewers’ favourite football programmes: Extra Time (January 9), Woza Weekend (January 13), Championship Show (January 13), Fan Base (January 8), Soccer Africa (January 12).
Meanwhile, DStv customers who sign up for DStv Rewards will be rewarded with two match day tickets and stand a chance to win an upgrade to DStv Premiership hospitality for them and a partner. They will have an opportunity to take pictures with DStv stars, football legends, and the DStv Premiership trophy.
